MEI's Biography

Mei’s Background

Hi, my name is Mei Yuzuki and I can eat 13 rounds of Korean BBQ at Iron Age. I was born in sunny Santa Monica, California and moved to Potomac, Maryland when I was 5 years old. I have two little brothers in elementary school, and they frustrate me to no end.

I love traveling and making videos, and I’ve had the privilege to travel to China the past 4 summers and learn more about myself and my culture. If you’d like to take a look at one I made from this last summer, here’s the YouTube link.

mei’s activities

I love music, and I’ve been playing flute since I was in 4th grade. I’m a section leader in the Wootton Marching Band, and this year we won state championships and placed 2nd in the nation.

As for sports, I row for Montgomery Boat Club, and I kickbox at Evolve Academy in Gaithersburg.

I do Model UN for Wootton and it’s taught me so much about diplomacy and public speaking. Learning how to voice my thoughts and opinions as well as leading my fellow delegates in creating resolutions has taught me valuable life skills, making me a reliable SMOB candidate.

Mei’s Motivation

Now, why am I running for SMOB?

I want to be the bridge between the students and the adults in charge. Currently there is a huge disconnect between the people in MCR and the everyday students, the athletes, the band kids, and everyone in between.

Everyday, I listen to my peers sigh in frustration, knowing that their desires will not be heard, which serves as my motivation in running for SMOB.

I believe in connecting people, and I believe in real change. Join me, and make my vision a reality.

For us. For once.

Mei's Policy

Not your usual blah blah blah
Everything here will be for students, and for change!

CHANGE FOOD: I’m pushing to bring better food to our public high schools by working with school nutrition classes.

CURRICULUM: As SMOB, I will promote career goals in classrooms. For example, JV and varsity athletes as well as marching band performers should be exempted from the PE requirement. Obviously, since these activities involve so much training the PE requirement is redundant and unnecessary. This requirement also takes away from a class where could find their passion.

COMPASSION: This year, there have been multiple suicides that could have been prevented with a caring and friendly environment that surrounds all types of students of Montgomery County. More awareness to the severity of depression and mental health will lead to a happier and healthier community.

COMMUNICATION: My goal is to be an accessible SMOB with my plan of SMOB 3.0 building off the legacy of Tim Hwang’s SMOB 2.0. I will be hosting weekly fireside chats on my Facebook and Instagram Live to update the student community on what is going on, and also to keep in touch with the students of Montgomery County schools. I will bring MCR accessibility to schools. I would like to see more unity as a county rather than just separate school spirit.
